LO: To be able to work in a small group to plan and create a short movie trailer

Main Tasks

Complete your DVD cover

Choose your group and begin to plan your movie trailer. You must do the following:

  • Decide on one of the ideas. Research similar trailers on you tube to see how long the trailer is, how do they entice the audience to watch the film, do they use music etc.?
  • Now think about your chosen idea in detail. You must come up with a scene by scene plan. Who will be in the scene, which location/locations will you use? Will you use a voice over or music? What age rating will it be etc.
  • If you are having music in your trailer you must now research the right music to make your film sound professional. Download the music you need.
  • You must now write a script for your trailer.
  • Start to film your trailer, you have 3 lessons to film it.
  • Edit the film trailer using Windows Movie Maker.

Main Task

Your task is to create a DVD cover (see examples below) for your own film. This can be created in any software that you see fit. Your cover should include:

  • Landscape layout (297 x 210)
  • Main image on the front
  • Synopsis of your film on the back cover
  • Bar code
  • Age rating
  • Credits on the back

You task is to create a monthly budget Spreadsheet for your ‘Future Self’. You need to do the following:

INCOME

1) You should first create a Spreadsheet like the one shown above using Excel

2) Find a job that you would like to do when you are older and research its average yearly salary

3) Enter the yearly salary into ‘Salary Calculator’ to find out how much money your would have in your ‘Bank’ each month

OUTGOINGS

4) Use this link to find out how much a flat/house would cost to rent in an area you would like to live

5) The average UK council tax bill can be found at this link

6) The average UK Gas & Electric costs can be found at this link

7) The average Water and Sewage costs can be found at this link

8) Phone contracts can be found at this link

9) Choose from one of the following cars or research your own. Remember to think about how much money you have coming into your bank each month before choosing the most expensive:

10) You now need to research the average monthly cost of the following and enter this data into your Spreadsheet

  • Food
  • Car Insurance
  • Petrol
  • Sky (If you want Sky TV)
  • Internet Connection
  • You should also include and research the cost of anything else you may want e.g. pets

11) You now need to work out a Total for your Outgoings using the Sum Function

12) Next you should use a Formula to work out the ‘Available Cash’

13) Now use a Formula to work out your ‘Weekly Budget’

14) Can you create a ‘Pie Chart’ to show your Income and a second ‘Pie Chart’ to show your Outgoings. These charts should have a neat title and be on separate, labeled sheets. Watch this Tutorial then have a go yourself!

15) You now need to record a ‘Macro’ to use as a link between your two worksheets. Watch this Tutorial and then have a go yourself.

16) Finally you need to create two conditional formatting rules. These will make your available cash cell highlight green or red depending on the CONDITION that you set. Watch this Tutorial and then have a go yourself.
